Back to school
Mon, 02/25/2008 - 18:17 — BabitaAfter my initial trepidition and a sense of being overwhelmed I am back in school not as a teacher but a student commuting to and fro from Lal Bagh west gate and trying to feel at home with the younger ,bubbly lot.
Last weekend after my workshop and yetanother saturday of trying to catch up with sketch up student i.d in tow went to the overcrowded majestic bus stand to get myself a student pass which is really cheap.(a seasonal ticket for a whole year...just around 700 bucks)
Thought I'l save some money. The 'Welcome 'board in Kannada got me bolder to approach the man in uniform at the counter.
Eshtu student pass ge?(How much does the student pass cost)
Yaarge beku avaranna karkondu banni?(get the person "who needs the pass)
Nanage..I muster up courage and blurt out..
He gives me a dirty glance top to toe and shooys off
date of birth ?
Yaake? (why) I ask him indignantly?
Nivu 30+aa?(are you thirty plus?
Houdhu?
Hogi madam yaav college nalli odhutha iddira?(Please leave which college do you go to?
Sorry You are 30+ ...no student passes for students who are past thirty..
I was hot with the heatand the angerand slowly slinked into into the nearest waiting auto to head home and vent out my frustration by hitting the gym and sweating it out.
So much for the adult education and literacy and their vigorous campaigning all over the country.
Is'nt that a little weird..
Age limit for student pass.
