Back from interim trips
Mon, 12/01/2008 - 03:35 — GabrielThis semester CEMA students and faculty visited various place around India to experience local cultures and perform research on topics they are working on. Students and faculty mixed with students at Srishti during the expeditions and have been reporting on themes they developed over the course of the trip through a series of presentations.
water
Thu, 07/31/2008 - 02:09 — Gabrielthere are some nice descriptions of projects from ISEA dealing with water at we-make-money-not-art.
Given the critical status of water for life and its rapidly developing status as a commodity, I'm hoping that CEMA can develop a series of projects during our environmental broadcasting semester to deal with water and the controversies surrounding it.
here's a tease:
CEMA's second logo
Thu, 01/03/2008 - 09:31 — GabrielSince there's a new CEMA typeface, I'm reminded to post the CEMA logo I developed for the postcards awhile back.
When I first ran it by a few people there seemed to be some interest, but I now believed that the interest was feigned. Only when I presented to the group (as well as a few undergrads) did I get a measured response. It was a swift and utter rejection.
Some background:
-The logo spell CEMA.
-It uses a script form derived from Kannada, the local language here in Bangalore.
-The colors are reminiscent of those used on the many signboards and trucks around town.
-Thus, while the spelling is about the Center for Experimental Media Arts, the visual style is in a very local vernacular.
The logo was critiqued as being too feminine (as if this were a bad thing) and not representative of what experimental arts really is (though I'm not sure even I could tell you if asked).
What do you think?
