My interest in the field of new media & multimedia has been growing over the past year. The video-animation installation for the kabir project and my summer internship with Experiential Design Lab in delhi have been my attempts to explore the same. Basically anything to get away from static graphic design!!

Project description: Creating five installations/devices in five different locations in Bangalore that will monitor pollution levels, transmit the data and effectively visualize this data
Objective- create awareness about growing pollution levels in the city and trying to affect/influence decision makers/suggest possible solutions??
Audience- masses and policy makers
Watch www.glob@sintheair.org similar project done using balloons as mobile units
Process documentation is very important for any project... interesting form
Scientists vs artists
Artists-Social responsibility, negotiating between parties
Representing data- aesthetic, user friendly, political propaganda, asserting ideologies/opinions
‘Information is power’
Perceived Value of artistic/design intervention
Artist/designers:
Antony Gormley
‘Quantum cloud’- artists tallest sculpture
Arrangement of tetrahedral steel units based on a computer generated random output algorithm.

artistic expression??...vs. design visualisation?

Structured process vs. exploratory project/// What s the main learning??..what is the focus??../// Understanding the hardware and programming, the technical bits... Learning a new language- thinking in terms of its possibilities,//form generates content??
what is the value of a specialised / expertise /niche designer vs. more general, wholistic, versatile designer in todays world?
victor projects-
video documentation
readings/tutorials-arduino and processing basics
Processing: Different sets i.e kinds like int,float,char,string,PImage,PFont,etc//// Arrays//// Global and local variables//// map- plotting co-ordinates , changing values, creating buttons (using update)
Week 2: July 15-16 Experimenting with sensors Victor explains the basics-bits and bytes..the logic!!! Ideating for pooja
Week 3: July 20-23 Electronics basics-different componenets of a circuit, the units ofmeasurements, their diagramatic /symbolic represnation.understanding the structure of the breadboard, other conventions to be followed.NAND gate-like a mini computer..microcontroller with basic logic Components to create a musical instument/device- Pachube inroduction:WAMP, making a server Making pooja... finding a relevant context /applictaion..importance of this sending info to pachube.
Meet with the scientists;:understanding the birth and scope of the project gave us a better understanding of what our role and goal was. Information can be designed in may ways.. it can affect the logical side and also the emotional aspect.ideally it needs to be a combination of both . First step should be to find out the opinions people have about the growing pollution in the city or if they even have any to begin with. Questionnaires, interviews, online social networking could be some of the tools used. Key Characteristics of Indian masses: Collective identity vs individual possessive attitude, inability to see the consequences in future, as the present is not seriously affected, consumerist. As this project is to be put out there for the public and aims to create some collective action, i feel that there should be enough ground research done about past projects as case studies, studying public opinions, attitudes and tastes so that the chances of success are increased.Just making some devices that use “cool” technology and that seem” cool” looking to us, a bunch of hypocritical designers is not gonna change anything!!!!
Week 4: 27-30 Ideating for ways of creating devices/installations for monitoring pollution levels and displaying data visually Victor presentation:radical tangible products rather than creating works of art...the sense of ownership that people feel with products vs art being esoteric, exclusive and for viewing as an outsider
